Website Description: Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (CCNPP) is owned and operated by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE). Located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, Maryland, the plant was constructed in the 1970s. Its two 850-megawatt generating units produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 400,000 residential customers.
On March 23, 2000, Calvert Cliffs became the first nuclear power plant in the United States to achieve license renewal. In approving the plant's application, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission extended the life of the plant by 20 years, to 2034 for Unit 1 and 2036 for Unit 2.
